One of the world’s largest and most influential modern dance festivals marks its 93rd annual season, spotlighting Camille A. Brown.
Director and choreographer Camille A. Brown created a new work that expands the possibilities of imagination and looks boldly toward the future, continuing her exploration of Black joy. She envisions a creative space for cultural liberation in “I Am,” exploring new ways of being in the world.
The work builds on themes from Brown’s earlier piece, “Ink,” inspired by the episode “I Am” of the HBO series Lovecraft Country, a story centered on self-discovery, transformation and limitless identity. “I Am” propels audiences into a universe where anything is possible and features a range of dance genres from the African diaspora.
